The Road To Becoming A Police Officer

The Pemberton Township Police Department is governed by the rules and promulgated by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.  We may only hire from a list that is supplied to us by the State.  Individuals wishing to persue a career in Law Enforcement must obtain a test application through the NJCSC.

Pemberton Township is a New Jersey Civil Service Commission - Law Enforcement juisdiction, therefore, all phases of recruitment, selection, and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and municipal ordinance.  Entry level examinations are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey Department of Personnel once every two years.  Dates for the entry level examinations can be found here.

Mandatory qualifications for appointment

  • Citizen of the united States
  • Good health to satisfy pension requirements
  • Good Moral Character (based on contemporary standards)
  • Literacy (read, write and speak the English language)
  • Free of criminal conviction involving moral turpitude
